5 Tricks for Healthier Looking Hair

on Selasa, 20 Desember 2011

Depending on how well you take care of your hair, it can actually look older than your driver’s license says you are. Thanks hot tools! But don’t pin all of the blame on your curling irons and straighteners. I spoke with Celebrity Stylist Ted Gibson and Global Artistic Director for Paul Mitchell Robert Cromeans to find out how you can keep your coif looking shiny and new.
#1 Use the right products
Start in the shower by using the right conditioner for your hair’s needs, and run it from mid-shaft to the ends. For example, if you have split ends, try one that temporarily binds them until your next trim like Nexxus Pro-Mend Split End Binding Conditioner.  “In addition, I also recommend using styling products that treat and hydrate hair,” comments Cromeans. Before hitting your locks with a blow dryer, run a tiny dollop of a moisturizing treatment like Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Styling Treatment Oil through your strands for added protection.
#2 Skip shampoos
Avoid shampooing every day. “Even if you’re using sulfate-free shampoos, at the end of the day, shampoo is detergent, which is meant for cleansing,” remarked Gibson. The PH in shampoos is alkaline, which not only removes build up and bacteria, but it also removes moisture. Even though you add moisture back in with conditioner, you don’t always need to strip it first.
#3 Treat with keratin
“The key to younger looking hair is moisture and shine,” states Gibson.  “Intensive in-salon or weekly protein based at-home treatments are imperative.” Overtime our hair suffers from keratin loss, which causes dullness and since our hair is made up of the protein, it’s important to replenish. Try using at home masks weekly like L’Oreal Professional Fiberceutic.
#4 Rinse with cold water
Daily, before you get out of the shower rinse your hair with cold water. It may not sound like the most pleasant experience before you slip into a plush bathrobe, but the results prove its worth. The shot of cold water helps to seal your strands’ cuticles, which creates instant smoothness and adds luster.
#5 Sleep on a silk pillowcase
Not only do silk sheets look more luxurious, but they’re also great for your hair! “As you toss and turn throughout the night, your hair glides across silk much easier than other fabrics like cotton preventing tangling and breakage,” says Cromeans.
